New series of The Young Offenders to drop on RTÉ Player
The new season will be available on RTÉ Player on April 3.
RTÉ has announced a new series of The Young Offenders, set to drop on RTÉ Player on Good Friday, April 3.
Produced by Vico Films for the BBC, in association with RTÉ, the new season of the comedy show will also air weekly on RTÉ One television, starting on Saturday, April 4, at 10:30 pm.
The original cast returns for the new series with Chris Walley as Jock O'Keeffe, Alex Murphy as Conor MacSweeney, Hilary Rose as Mairéad MacSweeney, and Shane Casey as Billy Murphy.
The Young Offenders also features 2FM's Demi Issac-Oviawe as Linda Walsh, Dominic MacHale as Sergeant Healy, Jennifer Barry as Siobhán Walsh, Danny Power as Gavin Madigan, P.J. Gallagher as Principal Barry Walsh, and Orla Fitzgerald as Orla Walsh.
"It's a joy to be able to bring season 5 of The Young Offenders to fans of the show who have followed these characters for 10 years now, it's the 10th anniversary of the release of the film," said creator Peter Foott.
"Season 5 brings Conor and Jock back together, with a stronger bond than they've ever had, and we're really excited to share these chaotic and heart-warming stories with audiences. The team is the best to work with, and we've ended up creating something special."
"We are delighted to be bringing a brand-new series of The Young Offenders to our audience," added Executive Producer for RTÉ Justin Healy.
"This series sees Conor and Jock fully reunited and full of well-meaning schemes and dreams, that bring nothing but chaos to all around them. Comedy drama with big heart and brilliantly bad behaviour is the order of the day in the best series yet."
Based on the 2016 film of the same title, The Young Offenders was first broadcast in 2018.
The year after being released, the film received the IFTA for Best Script Film.
The series has also received significant recognition, with the last season of the Cork-based comedy show receiving several IFTA nominations, such as for Best Drama, Lead Actor in a Drama (Alex Murphy), and Script Drama (Peter Foott).
In that ceremony, the fourth season of The Young Offenders won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama (Chris Walley).
