Scotty Moore was 84.
Scotty Moore, the legendary Elvis Presley guitarist, passed away yesterday at his home in Nashville. He was 84 years old.
Moore supported Elvis on many of his most loved tracks, including ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’, and ‘Blue Suede Shoes’. He also backed the singer on both his celebrated Sun sessions and his 1968 comeback special.
Moore is regarded as a hugely influential figure in the history of rock guitar. Rolling Stone ranked him at 29 on their 2011 list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He worked not only with Elvis but also with Jeff Beck, Levon Helm, Jeff Beck, Ringo Starr, and Keith Richards among many others.
Richards once said, “Everyone else wanted to be Elvis, I wanted to be Scotty”.
