Dermot Kennedy to return with new single 'Something To Someone' next week

After winning the Choice Music Prize Song of the Year for his previous single, 'Better Days', Dermot Kennedy has announced that he has a brand new track on the way. Taking to social media to share the single artwork, the Irish singer-songwriter revealed that 'Something To Someone' will be released on Thursday, May 5.

"I can't wait for you to hear this one," Kennedy wrote on Instagram. "Been holding on to it for a while now."

He also shared a preview of the track on TikTok – in a video that's already garnered over 343,000 views.

With his debut album, Without Fear, remaining a mainstay on the Irish charts a full two-and-a-half years after its release, the Co. Dublin star has firmly established himself as one of the most powerful forces in Irish music. In addition to solo singles like 'Giants' and 'Better Days',  he's also joined forces with the likes of MEDUZA – with their 2020 collaborative single, 'Paradise', clocking up over 512 million Spotify streams.

In an interview with Hot Press last year, Dermot spoke about his progress on the highly anticipated follow-up to Without Fear.

“In a strange way, I’m kind of excited about making music through a strange time,” he remarked. “It’s important, throughout times like this, for artists to carry a bit of the burden, and to take a bit of responsibility for making people feel better. That’s why we make music. I’ve felt a bit of a sense of duty, in that way, to get the album over the line.

“I’ve got a load of songs floating around,” he continued. “There’s some really special days – and there’s some days where, at the end of the day, I have nothing to show for it. Some days it just doesn’t hit. But I’m working all the time. I think I’m almost there – but there’s a lot left to be done. I’m very determined to not just have a replica of the first album. A lot of people fall victim to that. But I also don’t want to leave behind anybody who has grown to like my music so far. So I’m just trying to do something interesting, and meaningful.
