Delorentos, The Clash & Irish Discos hit the New Year airwaves
If you’re chilling at home today – no bad thing after last night’s festivities! – Radio 1 has a double-whammy of musical delights.
First up at 2pm is Will Leahy’s From Dance Hall Days To Boogie Nights, a nostalgic look at Ireland’s relationship with the dancefloor. We’ve had a sneak listen and it’s fascinating stuff!
At 4pm it’s the pilot episode of Songwriters, which finds Paddy McKenna hanging out at IMRO headquarters with the mighty Delorentos who talk about their craft and bash out a barrage of tunes.
Those of a slightly crinklier disposition will be glued to BBC4 at 10.45pm for The Clash – New Year’s Day ’77, which documents Joe & Co.’s legendary Roxy Club gig. Along with archive Julian Temple footage, there are new interviews with the surviving members of the band who fondly recall the London punk uprising. They wanted a riot of their own and they got it!
