Deep Purple's Ian Paice Suffers "Mini-stroke"
The drummer has since given an update on his condition.
Earlier this week drummer for British hard rock band Ian Paice suffered a "mini-stroke". The band were forced to cancel two planned gigs in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden as a result.
Writing on the band's Facebook page yesterday, June 16, Paice said, "On the morning of the 14th of June I woke up to find that the right side of my body was feeling numb and I could not control my right hand and fingers". He was subsequently admitted to hospital in Stockholm where doctors diagnosed him with TIA or a "mini-stroke".
TIA or transient ischemic attack occurs when blood flow to the brain is cut off for a short period of time. The symptoms are the same as a regular stroke but usually appear and disappear within 24 hours. Generally they cause no damage but are an indicator that a full stroke may occur in the future.
"After both CT and MIR scans there was found to be no serious or permanent damage. As of this moment all I am suffering is a slightly numb right side of the face a tingling sensation in my right hand. My dexterity in the hand is coming back quickly and I fully expect to re commence touring next month", Paice added.
These are the first shows Paice has been forced to miss with the band since their formation in 1968. Deep Purple recently finished working on their 20th studio album. Its expected to be released later this year.
