Death Grips announce break up
The duo still plan to release one final album at some point this year.
No strangers to completely unexpected career decisions, Death Grips announced their dissolution yesterday through a post on their Facebook.
Through a photo of a message scrawled on a napkin the announcement read: "We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. We have officially stopped. All currently scheduled live dates are cancelled. Our upcoming double album The Powers That Be will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest / Third World Records. Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. Above and beyond a ‘band’. To our truest fans, please stay legend."
The announcement comes less than a month after the release of Niggas On The Moon and as the group were set to co-headline an American tour with Nine Inch Nails.
Through his Twitter account, Nine Inch Nails frontman commented, "sorry everyone… why would I have ever thought those dudes could keep it together?".
Of course Death Grips are no strangers to attention seeking maneuvers, from leaking their own album to get out of a major label record deal to scheduling concerts where the band never intended to perform, so there is still the potential that this is just another one of the band's constant publicity stunts.
