Dani Larkin looks ahead to Electric Picnic: "Being able to have that intimacy, but in the openness of the wide expanse of the festival site, is just incredible"

“This is my first time playing Electric Picnic. It’s iconic really, isn’t it? It stands out in the calendar both as an artist and as a festival-goer. That’s thanks to the combination of excellent headliners, with also being able to see acts you haven’t seen before. EP delivers on that. I remember seeing Lisa O’Neill, always such a standout performer, there. Being able to have that intimacy, but in the openness of the wide expanse of the festival site, is just incredible. Sharing that experience, you get to make friends – you can become fans beyond that.

“In the past year, working as a producer across different projects, I’ve built a studio – so this set will be a new one. I’ll not give away all my secrets, but it delves into bringing that sonic experience that you get in the studio into my live performance. EP will be my first chance to do that.

“I’ve never seen Hozier perform before, so I’ll have to see him. I think everyone should see him at least once in their lifetime. He’s enthralling, isn’t he? He seems to very graciously invite his audience into every moment, even though he’s a global pop star. That’s a special thing to be able to do – to have that level of connection with your audience, with the people that keep your career alive, even if you’re playing to tens of thousands at the one time.”

Electric Picnic returns to Stradbally Hall in Co. Laois from August 29–31.
