Shane MacGowan was unable to attend the premiere, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Johnny Depp was among those in attendance at the world premiere of Crock Of Gold: A Few Rounds With Shane MacGowan at the San Sebastian Film Festival last night.
The documentary, produced by Depp and directed by Julien Temple, follows the Pogues frontman's remarkable career – featuring interviews with Bono, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, President Michael D. Higgins, Gerry Adams, and more.
MacGowan was unable to attend the premiere, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Speaking at a press conference at the film festival, Depp noted that he has "had a long, long history with Shane."
"Even before I met him, I was fascinated by his language, his ability to make these incredibly moving, powerful songs," he said, according to Variety. "He was so prolific while at the same time being on the heels of the devil.”
Julien Temple also spoke about his relationship with MacGowan, revealing that he "did the first interview with Shane on a little crazy half-inch reel to reel video that you had on your shoulder like a tape recorder."
