Final trailer for Clayface has been released

The final trailer for horror-thriller Clayface has been released. Starring Welshman Tom Rhys Harries as the titular Batman villain, it hits theatres on October 23.

Clayface is a shapeshifting enemy of Batman, who has also been his ally in some timelines.

In this interpretation, Matt Hagen is an actor with a troubled childhood, on the brink of Hollywood success until a vengeant criminal disfigures him. Desperate to restore his face and career, Hagen undergoes a treatment that heals his scars, but causes his appearance to morph, and brings severe psychological side-effects.

The film is directed by James Watkins, known for Eden Lake and Speak No Evil. Mike Flanagan, who wrote the screenplay with Hossein Amini, is known for successful horror films The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. Flanagan was the first pick for director of Clayface, but his schedule did not allow for it.

Naomi Ackie plays the scientist who engineers the Clayface serum and also becomes Hagen's love interest. The film also stars David Dencik, Max Minghella as a Gotham City cop, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll and Joshua James. It was filmed in Liverpool, as was The Batman.

The film is DC Studios' first R-rated movie. Peter Safran, producer and co-CEO of DC Studios, spoke of expanding the tonal range of the DC Universe with this unusually graphic comic villain film.

Fans have praised the withholding of Clayface's final form, a towering monstrosity, from marketing, leaving the reveal for the movie itself.
