Clare Singer hoaxed by email hacker
Siobhan O' Brien had emails sent from her account claiming she was stranded in Nigeria and needed money
Clare singer, Siobhan O' Brien, has become the victim of an email hacker who sent hoax emails from from her account claiming she was stranded in Nigeria and needed money to get home.
The hoax emails stated that O' Brien was stranded in Nigeria with a E1200 hotel bill that she could not pay, as she had left her passport, money, and other valuables in a taxi. She also asked for a further E1300 to feed herself and to leave Africa. The hoaxer claimed O' Brien was in Africa as part of a programme called "Empowering Youth to Fight Racism,HIV/AIDS, Poverty and Lack of Education". The hoaxer even went on to say that Ms. O' Brien needed the money within 30 minutes and provided details on how to transfer the money.
It is not known how many people, if any, sent money to the hoaxer. Siobhan O' Brien is anxious to clarify that these emails are a completely fabricated.
