Björk teases new album in Reykjavik exhibition announcement
A newly announced exhibition in Reykjavik next summer features work from an album that is currently "under development".
Björk appears to be working on a new album, hinted at through details of an exhibition planned for next summer at the National Gallery of Iceland.
It was announced on social media that Björk and long-time collaborator James Merry would be taking over the gallery during the Reykjavik Arts Festival for an exhibition titled Echolalia.
The exhibition will consist of three “immersive installations,” ‘Ancestress,’ ‘Sorrowful Soil,’ and one unnamed piece, which is from “a new work based on music from her forthcoming album, currently in development.”
The two named pieces draw from songs on her album, Fossora (2022), and also reflect on the passing of her mother, Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir.
Since releasing Fossora, Björk teamed up with Rosalía to release the charity single 'Oral' to support the fight against foreign-owned salmon farming in Iceland. They also teamed up in October this year for the song 'Berghain' on Rosalía's recent album, Lux.
Elsewhere Björk has been vocal in her support for Palestine, joining over 400 artists in the No Music For Genocide movement and speaking out when her childhood friend and fellow Icelandic musician Magga Stína was abducted by Israeli forces while participating in an aid flotilla. "I believe activism is as diverse as humans are," Björk said.
