Anti-apartheid play returns for another run
Strike! tells its story with a little help from Bono.
Following its successful premiere there in May, Strike! returns to Dublin’s Samuel Beckett Theatre for a 13 night run commencing on October 26 and then transfers between November 9 and 13 to The Axis in Ballymun.
The story of the Dunnes Stores workers who as a protest against apartheid refused to sell South African fruit to customers, it features a choice ‘80s soundtrack and a portrayal of Bono by actor John Carey who has multiple parts in the production.
There’s also a happy ending with the three-years they spent on the picket line eventually leading to the blanket banning of South African imports.
