100 Voices: Sorcha Richardson- On How Irelands Attitude Needs To Change
We invited a 100-strong chorus of artists, writers, musicians, broadcasters, sports stars and more to contribute to Now We’re Talking, a mental health campaign, run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House.
Spending so much time in New York in my early twenties had quite a significant impact on my own mental health. Living in New York, and being a musician, can be very emotionally and mentally draining.
At least half of my friends in America go to therapy on a regular basis, or have done so at some point in their life. There’s no shame or embarrassment associated with it. Seeing my college friends talk so openly about their own struggles with mental health made me a lot more comfortable talking about my emotions and admitting to myself, and to the people around me, when I wasn’t doing okay.
I would love to see Ireland get to a similar place where we’re not ashamed to ask for help.
100 Voices was published in the Hot Press Mental Health Special in conjunction with Lyons Tea and Pieta House as part of the Now We're Talking Campaign. For more please visit hotpress.com/now-were-talking/
