100 Voices: Alan O'Mara On Mental Health Services and Asking for Help: #NowWereTalking
We invited a 100-strong chorus of artists, writers, musicians, broadcasters, sports stars and more to contribute to Now We’re Talking, a mental health campaign, run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House. Alan O'Mara contributes his thoughts...
The big thing to remember is you're not alone.
I'm still learning that now doing the podcast. I think it's important for sports people to remember that they're still just a person as well, and they're going to have ups and downs like everyone else. Our mental health services are not up to scratch. But the one thing I do say about that is it's very easy to get caught up in the negative and blame the government etc. The most important thing is to keep looking for help, and there are a lot of great charities out there doing brilliant work. The likes of Pieta House, for example, are excellent, so you' ve gotta really dig in and find what's right for you.
100 Voices was published in the Hot Press Mental Health Special in conjunction with Lyons Tea and Pieta House as part of the Now We're Talking Campaign. For more please visit hotpress.com/now-were-talking/
