WATCH: Scary Movie 6 trailer released as horror spoof returns after 15 years
Watch the trailer below.
The trailer for the most recent film in the Scary Movie franchise has been unmasked by Paramount Pictures.
For the first time in eighteen years, the Wayans brothers—Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen—reunite in Scary Movie 6 to pen a new entry in the horror parody series. It is the first film in the comedy series since 2013's Scary Movie 5.
The trailer sees many popular horror movies from the last several years parodied, including recent hits like Sinners, Weapons, The Substance and Netflix’s Wednesday. The trailer starts out with a spoof of the Ghostface subway scene from the recently released Scream 6—as masked horror characters, including the dancing robot killer Megan, fill the carriage.
Together with Regina Hall and Anna Faris, Marlon and Shawn Wayans take on Ghostface but also poke fun at Get Out, Smile, Terrifier, Longlegs, and other movies.
Other returning Scary Movie cast members include Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott. Newcomers to the satirical franchise include the brothers’ nephew Damon Wayans Jr, their sister Kim Wayans, SNL alum Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber and Benny Zielke.
The original Scary Movie from 2000 is one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror films ever made. At $42.5 million, the movie made the biggest box office debut for a Black director and an R-rated horror film at the time. Keenen wrote and directed the first two of the Scary Movie film franchise, which was created by the Wayans Bros and starred Shawn and Keenan.
Scary Movie 6 will be released in Irish cinemas on June 12.
