Trailer released for The Altruists starring Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner
"I genuinely believe that both Sam and Caroline were deeply committed altruists from day one, who set out to do as much good for as many people as they could in their lives," said creator Graham Moore.
A new trailer has been released for The Altruists, an eight-episode Netflix series about the real-life story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, out November 19.
House of Guinness's Anthony Boyle and Ozark's Julia Garner star as "Gen Z's Bonnie and Clyde."
"The story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye - before they were accused of stealing $8 billion," reads the official logline.
The trailer shows Boyle and Garner's characters discussing the beginning of their cryptocurrency company, FTX.
"We go all in, or I'm out," Garner says.
It then shows their increasingly risky rise, making them billions of dollars as those around them come to realise their deception.
It ends with Garner saying: "I don't know who I can trust."
"You can trust me, right?" Boyle responds.
The show is written by Graham Moore, executive produced by Jacqueline Hoyt and directed by Moore, James Ponsoldt, Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Marilee Almas and Silver Tree.
Other series regulars include Alex Lawther as Sam Trabucco, Karan Soni as Nishad Singh, Naomi Okada as Claire Watanabe and more.
The Altruists was inspired by the New York Magazine articles written by Kevin T. Dugan and Jen Wieczner.
Bankman-Fried founded the failed FTX cryptocurrency exchange in 2019, before ultimately being sentenced to 25 years in prison when a federal jury convicted him on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy related to the collapse of his cryptocurrency company and related hedge fund.
The US government alleged that he had cheated investors and customers out of upwards of $10 billion through FTX and his crypto trading firm Alameda Research.
Ellison was the CEO of Alameda Research, a trading firm affiliated with FTX, and was in a relationship with Bankman-Fried. She served over a year in prison.
"I genuinely believe that both Sam and Caroline were deeply committed altruists from day one, who set out to do as much good for as many people as they could in their lives," said creator and writer Moore.
"Over the course of the years that our show depicts, Sam and Caroline, with the very best of intentions, talked each other and themselves into committing a number of terrible crimes."
