Slane Castle revealed as The Traitors Ireland location
22 Irish contestants will compete in the "nail-biting psychological" TV series The Traitors Ireland
RTÉ have revealed that the Irish edition of international sensation The Traitors will be located in Slane Castle.
The historic site, owned and lived in by the Mount Charles family, which normally hosts concerts and other live events will now serve as a backdrop to one of the most popular reality TV formats of recent years.
"We're delighted to have been given access to one of the country's most iconic castles by the Mount Charles family," said Gráinne McAleer, RTÉ's head of Documentaries and Series. "Slane has been an ideal production base - the castle is suitably imposing, and the Boyne Valley makes for a stunning backdrop."
Hosted by Siobhán McSweeney, The Traitors Ireland will put an Irish spin on the originally Dutch format, which saw increased international popularity with US and UK adaptations.
The show will see 22 contestants compete for a prize of €50,000 by completing challenges and missions. The catch is that some of the players are traitors and will attempt to sabotage and eliminate other contestants without getting caught.
"Slane Castle may be our home, but it was built for entertaining. Having The Traitors here is an enthralling evolution of this theme as the dramatic setting of the castle and its grounds now provide the backdrop for world class entertainment on the screen," said Alex Mount Charles.
The Traitors Ireland is expected to air later this year on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player.
