Sequel to The Simpsons Movie confirmed for 2027
A The Simpsons Movie sequel is in the works after nearly two decades.
A sequel to The Simpsons Movie has been announced, nearly 20 years after the original film debuted in cinemas.
20th Century Studios confirmed the news on Monday, revealing a release date of July 23, 2027. The teaser poster, shared on Instagram, features an image of a doughnut being grabbed with the tagline: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

The original film, released in 2007, followed Homer Simpson as he accidentally polluted Springfield’s water supply, prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to seal the town under a dome. The film grossed over $500 million globally and ended with baby Maggie saying “sequel?”
In 2024, executive producer Al Jean said formal talks about a sequel had stopped due to the pandemic, with studios waiting to assess the performance of other animated features.
The Simpsons remains the longest-running animated TV-series in the US. First aired in 1989, the show has run for 37 seasons and has been renewed through season 40.
No plot details for the upcoming film have been released.
