Sacha Baron Cohen revives Ali G in secret new movie
A new Ali G film created by Sacha Baron Cohen has wrapped up its production with limited details currently available.
Over 20 years since Ali G Indahouse, Sacha Baron Cohen is bringing the character back. The film had not been announced publicly and was shot in secret.
His breakout comedy character was reported to be brought back to screens by The InSneider, who first got the news.
The report says the film was first rumoured in 2023 but was delayed due to writers’ and actors’ strikes during the time in the US. "It’s unclear whether the new Ali G movie is being shopped to buyers right now or if it already has a home, but it’s my understanding that it’s in the can," it states.
Cohen is known by the names of his numerous fictional and satirical characters: Ali G, Borat Sagdiyev, Brüno Gehard, and Admiral General Haffaz Aladeen. He wrote and starred in Ali G Indahouse, a comedy which was released in 2002.
The British hip-hop character, Ali G, played by Cohen first debuted on The 11 O'Clock Show on Channel 4 in 1998. Afterwards, he started his own Da Ali G Show which aired during the early 2000s on HBO. The character conducted interviews with politicians and celebrities including Donald Trump in 2003.
His acting career includes the role of Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7. He has also starred in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Dictator, Hugo, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Les Misérables and voice acted in multiple Madagascar films. The actor has been nominated for three Oscars.
Cohen's films Borat (2006) and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020) had also been shot in secret and are two of his most popular movies. He also released a movie in 2009 for his character titled Brüno.
Cohen's recent roles include starring in the Netflix film Ladies First, released in May this year. He also starred in Balls Up, which premiered on Prime Video a month prior.
Further details including a release date for the film have not been confirmed.
