Ruth Negga and Jessie Buckley among nominees for Film Independent Spirit Awards
The 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards will take place on March 6th 2022.
Irish actors Jessie Buckley and Ruth Negga are among the nominees for the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
Both nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Negga has been nominated for her work in the racial drama Passing, the directorial debut from Rebecca Hall and now available to stream on Netflix.
Buckley has been nominated for her supporting role in the upcoming The Lost Daughter, written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and also starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson and Paul Mescal. It opens in cinemas December 17th and will be on Netflix from December 31st.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards typically are an important early indicator for indie Oscar nominations. Only low and mid- budget films, made for less than $22.5 million, can compete.
Now in it's 37th year, the nominees for 2022 were announced yesterday in a livestream broadcast hosted by Beanie Feldstein, Regina Hall, and Naomi Watts. Among the most prominent contenders are The Lost Daughter, Janicza Bravo's Zola and Mike Mills' C'mon C'mon.
Normally held during the same weekend as the Oscars, the virtual Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on March 6th 2022, three weeks before the Oscars which will take place on March 27th next year.
