Ruairi O’Connor, Laurence O'Fuarain, Ann Skelly & Jack Gleeson join the cast of Netflix’s The Sandman
The Irish actors join a dazzling season-two cast, including Steve Coogan, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Stephen Fry, Patton Oswalt and more.
Netflix has announced new casting and characters for The Sandman’s second season, which includes Irish actors Ruairi O’Connor, Laurence O'Fuarain, Ann Skelly and Jack Gleeson.
O’Connor is Orpheus, the idealistic artist-cum-oracle and only child of Dream and the muse, Calliope. Orpheus is an idealistic, romantic, young man – and very much his father’s son – until tragedy strikes and reveals to him the true nature of love.
O'Fuarain is Thor, the storm god. With his hammer Mjollnir, Thor is brusque, rude, and driven entirely by his appetites – for food and drink, for battle, and for sex.
Skelly is Nuala, a royal emissary from the court of Faerie, alongside her brother Cluracan (Douglas Booth). Nuala and Cluracan are siblings who are opposites in every way. Nuala is responsible, empathetic, and principled. Cluracan is an impulsive rogue who lives for pleasure. They disagree about everything, except their devotion to one another.
Gleeson is Puck, a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie. Puck is fascinated by mortals and enjoys nothing more than making sport of them for his own amusement. He’s also the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Other new cast members include Steve Coogan, whom many know for his character of Alan Partridge, English actor and musician Douglas Booth, Scottish actor Clive Russell, English film and stage actor Freddie Fox and American model and actress Indya Moore.
The new members join an already remarkable cast, which includes Tom Sturridge, Patton Oswalt, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Stephen Fry, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Razane Jammal.
Based on the beloved award-winning DC comic series written by Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is a rich, character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of ten epic chapters following Dream’s many adventures. The show is developed and executive produced by Gaiman, showrunner Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer.
