Dublin International Film Festival to tour college campuses with free screenings and filmmaker Q&As

The Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) will tour six colleges and universities in the coming weeks, showing Irish films for free in attendance of a filmmaker, writer or director who worked on them.

The initiative aims to showcase Irish cinema and excite young people to watch and create movies. The actor, director or writer present will be introduced and take part in a Q&A after the screening.

The films being shown include IFTA-winning The Young Offenders; An Cailín Ciúin, which is mostly in Irish and based on Claire Keegan's novella Foster; and Garage, which won the Best Film prize at the 25th Torino Film Festival.

Other films being shown are The Pipe, That They May Face The Rising Sun, Sing Street, The Secret of Kells, Adam & Paul, Waveriders, and select short films.

The universities participating are the Dundalk Institute of Technology, Louth; Maynooth University in Kildare; Technological University of the Shannon, Limerick; South East Technological University, Carlow; Atlantic Technological University, Donegal; and Munster Technological University, Kerry.

“Today’s students represent the future of the Irish screen industries, both as the audience members and as the next generation of talent who will shape the stories coming to our screens in the next decade", said Louise Ryan of Screen Ireland, which is supporting DIFF's tour.

"Our hope is that by having the opportunity to watch a wide variety of Irish stories on screen, and to speak directly with filmmakers about the creative process, that younger audiences will feel inspired to tell their own stories in the future.”
