Rosie O'Donnell confirms move to Ireland following Trump election
"When you know it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back," Rosie O'Donnell said.
Comedian and television personality Rosie O'Donnell has confirmed her move to Ireland following the election of Donald Trump.
In a nine minute video shared to TikTok, she also confirmed that she is in the process of acquiring Irish citizenship.
"I'm here in Ireland, and it's beautiful," she said. "It's been pretty wonderful, I have to say, the people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming, and I'm very grateful."
The broadcaster cited the political climate in the US as the main reason for the relocation, saying "I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child"
"It's been heartbreaking to see what's happening politically and hard for me personally as well," O'Donnell said. "The personal is political, as we all know."
The Emmy-winner also shared anxieties surrounding media outlets such as TikTok and others "going away" due to the hostility of the Trump administration towards them.
"The mainstream media has been letting us all down in America, where the fourth estate is required to maintain a democracy," she said. "They haven't been doing their job."
"I encourage everyone to stand up, to use their voice, to protest, to demand that we follow the constitution of our country, and not a king," she added.
