Robin Williams' children pay tribute to their late father
Robin Williams died in 2014, at the age of 63.
This week marked the seven-year anniversary of the death of legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams.
In recognition of the day, Williams' two children, Zak (38) and Zelda (32), took to social media to pay tribute to their father who sadly died by suicide at the age of 63. Choosing to highlight the importance of reaching out for help when struggling with mental illness, Williams' children posted loving messages about their dad.
Zak, who is a mental health advocate, tweeted, "The joy and inspiration you brought to the world carries on in your legacy and in your family, friends, and fans you so loved. You lived to bring laughter and to help others. I will be celebrating your memory today. Love you forever."
Zelda's tribute was in solidarity with all those also struggling with grief. She said: "sending love out there today to all the folks navigating loss. New, old, the connective tissue of that deeply human pain can be hard to bear, but I find it easier sometimes knowing how many others have felt the same sting. We're not alone."
Williams was known for his comedic improvisation skills, and became a household name following his work in films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting. He also received two Primetime Emmy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and five Grammy Awards.
Often working in family films, Williams was best known for the title role in Mrs Doubtfire, voicing the Genie in Aladdin and, later, as Theodore Roosevelt in the Night at the Museum trilogy. The final film in the series was poignantly released posthumously in December 2014.
Williams' body was cremated at Monte's Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo, California, in September 2014, and his ashes were scattered over San Francisco Bay the next day.
