Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee to return with Irish dancing mockumentary Jig

Jig, a new comedy series from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has been announced by Netflix. Set to be shot in the North of Ireland next year, the six-part mockumentary will explore "the high-stakes world of competitive Irish dancing."

"Best friends Cara and Fletcher, from the struggling Sweeney School of Dance in Derry take on their sworn rivals in Florida, a slick, sponsored, seemingly unbeatable operation," the series' description reads. "We follow both teams as they journey towards the all important World championships. But who will lift that trophy?"

Lisa McGee is credited as the series' writer and creator. She also serves as executive producer alongside Liz Lewin, Caroline Leddy and Suzanne Mackie. Jig was commissioned for Netflix from Orchid Pictures.

Following her hit series Derry Girls – which was Channel 4's most successful comedy since Father Ted – McGee returned earlier this year with How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, released via Netflix. She is also reportedly working on FX and 20th Television's upcoming Wildwood series. Set in the summer of 2000, the series will follow a group of Irish students who arrive in Wildwood, New Jersey, with "no money, no visas, no plan, no clue."
