First look images revealed of Love/Hate creator Stuart Carolan's new BBC series Tall Tales & Murder

The first look artwork and pictures for dark comedic drama Tall Tales & Murder have been released.

The six-part series comes from Love/Hate creator Stuart Carolan and was co-created by Emmy Award winner Chris Addison. Filmed in Ireland, the story is based on the nine-book Dublin Trilogy by Caimh McDonnell.

The drama “mixes a Bonnie and Clyde style adventure of bent cops, kidnapping, underworld fixers and the dilemmas of unconventional heroes and villains with an 8^th Century tall tale of monks, Vikings, buried treasure and a priceless holy book,” according to the official summary.

The cast includes Black Doves star Ella-Lily Hyland as Bridget, an “unconventional” nurse at a Dublin nursing home where Raw’s Aisling O’Sullivan is the Matron.

Casey Walsh, who is also a rapper by the name of Casper Walsh and formerly part of the rap group Versatile, stars as Paul in his first television acting role. Paul is a young man stuck stealing cars to repay a debt to crime boss Ma Baker, played by Derry Girls’ Philippa Dunne.

Fair City’s Brian Doherty plays Bunny Ryan, an “irascible detective,” and Love/Hate and Game of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen plays a comatose patient only known as ‘Anonymous’ until he wakes up and realises his identity as Grinner McNair. Finally, Peaky Blinders’ Packy Lee stars as “vicious gangster” Wesley Swanson.

The series will be broadcast on RTÉ and BBC One Northern Ireland this autumn. An exact release date has not yet been given.

The series comes as a co-commission from BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ in association with Screen Ireland. It is produced by Avalon and Ireland-based Metropolitan pictures.
