FKA twigs in talks to play Josephine Baker in upcoming biopic
The biopic will be directed by French filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré.
FKA twigs is in talks to star as Josephine Baker in an upcoming biopic about the the groundbreaking American-born French dancer entertainer and civil rights activist, Variety reports.
The currently untitled project is set to be directed by Maïmouna Doucouré, best known for her film Cuties, and produced by Studiocanal.
It has also been endorsed by Josephine Baker’s sons, Jean-Claude Bouillon Baker and Brian Bouillon Baker.
Baker, a trailblazing entertainer and civil rights activist, became the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture, the 1927 Siren of the Tropics. Outside of entertainment, she aided France’s military intelligence agency during World War II and was a prominent civil rights activist in the 1950s.
This role would follow FKA twigs’ connection to Baker, as their look for the Met Gala 2025 was inspired by the pioneering entertainer.
twigs previously appeared in the 2024 remake of The Crow alongside Bill Skarsgård, and is also set to feature in The Carpenter’s Son with Nicolas Cage.
Their most recent album, Eusexua, was released in January 2025, and rated an 8/10 by Hot Press, who called it a "liberating, experimental and nuanced consideration of self-discovery."
