Dominic Sessa will star as Anthony Bourdain in A24’s upcoming biopic, Tony.
The film will also feature Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas. Directed by Matt Johnson, the plot follows a young Bourdain in 1976 and a series of life-changing events that take place in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Shooting will begin next month.
Bourdain enrolled in culinary school in 1978 before working as executive chef at New York’s Brasserie Les Halles. The chef's memoir, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly was released in 2000. He took his life in 2018 at age 61 whilst filming in France, and earned a posthumous Emmy for the series No Reservations and Parts Unknown.
The film was written by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, and produced by A24, Star Thrower and Zapruder Films. Bourdain’s estate representative Kimberly Witherspoon will executive produce the movie, alongside Chris Stinson, Amy Greene, Lou Howe, Bartels and Emily Rose.
