Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman to star in Elsinore
The film is set to start filming in January.
Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman are set to star in Elsinore, directed by Simon Stone.
The screenplay was written by BAFTA-winning writer Stephen Beresford, and is based on the life of Scottish actor Ian Charleson. Charleson is recognised for his performances on both stage and screen, and famously played the role of Hamlet at the National Theatre in 1989 while battling AIDS.
“This is one of the most exciting projects I've ever been involved in," says Stone. "Stephen Beresford's screenplay is both heartbreaking and hilarious, a beautiful ode to the power of community in times of crisis. Andrew Scott is one of the greatest actors of his generation as Ian Charleson was: it's momentous casting."
Scott, who will play Charleson, can currently be seen in Richard Linklater's newly released film Blue Moon, starring alongside Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley. Colman, who is currently in production for her role as Mrs. Bennet in Netflix's limited series Pride And Prejudice, will play his doctor.
The two previously worked together on Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Emmy-winning dark comedy Fleabag, for which Scott was awarded with a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series.
Elsinore will begin shooting in January 2026.
