Happy Hookers in Dublin
The Sunday Times reports that prostitutes in Dublin are making more money here than they could in many European cities. The report cites Gardai sources and claims that many sex workers charge up to €400 per hour for their services.
Detective Superintendent John McKeon, head of Operation Quest – a unit that investigates prostitution and lap-dancing – reports that Gardai have found no evidence of sex trafficking in Dublin. McKeon believes that prostitution should be legalised here so that the sex trade can be monitored and workers protected.
According to the report, Ireland’s booming economy makes Dublin an attractive place for sex workers and that most keep around 50% of their earnings.

The codpiece is a fashion that is not likely to revived any time soon, but they were extremely popular in Europe from the 14th to the 17th century. The codpiece came into vogue because of the medieval fashion for short jackets – its function was to preserve a man’s modesty as well as display his manly goods in the best possible light.

Fashions varied from country to country, so much so that historians can date and tell the nationality of a costume simply by examining the codpiece. The German version was padded like a pillow, the English codpiece pointed upwards, and the French liked to cover theirs in gold trinkets. The Italians were so fond of their codpieces that the rest of their outfit was toned down so as to make the codpiece all the more conspicuous. Some designs were particularly elaborate and were even covered in gargoyle faces.

As well as a fashion item, the codpiece was sometimes used as a pocket for valuables. Some men keep fruit in their codpieces – a nibble of which would be offered to the lady of their affections. Yummy!
