Pretty Girls Make Grave Mistakes
Who would have thought that the old comedy stand-by is true, but apparently it is – the sight of an attractive woman can be enough to confuse a man and disrupt his ability to make decisions. Researchers at Belgium’s University of Leuven found that sexual cues distract men’s thoughts, prevent them from focusing on a task and can cause them to act impulsively. This was particularly true for men with higher levels of testosterone. The researchers have conducted similar tests on women, but have not found that sexual imagery affects female decision-making.
World’s Unsexiest Man
Most actors like accolades but I am sure Gilbert Gottfried would have been happier not to be named the ‘Unsexiest Man in the World’ by the Boston Phoenix newspaper. Gottfried, a comedian who has appeared in numerous film and television roles, including a year-long stint on Saturday Night Live was described by the paper as a “parrot-voiced, pickled-faced comic.”
National Condom Week
Ireland’s first National Condom Week to promote safer sex takes place from May 8th to 13th this year. National Condom Week is supported by the countries leading sexual health charities such as Dublin AIDS Alliance, the Union of Students in Ireland, the Irish Family Planning Association and the Crisis Pregnancy Agency and is sponsored by Durex. The initiative marks the start of a survey into Irish sexual attitudes and behaviour.

Christian Sex
For most of us the Christian churches position on extramarital sex is hopelessly outdated. But compared to some of the beliefs various Christian religions have held over time, this ban seems positively liberal. Here are some of the sexual practises the Church has condemned in the past:

• Although Christians were encouraged to marry, some theologians tried to restrict just how much ‘married love’ couples could share. Sex was off limits on Thursdays, as that was the day of Christ’s arrest. Fridays were no good either, as that was the day that Christ died. Sunday, being the day of the resurrection, was not considered suitable either.
• All sex during the day was considered sinful. Sex was also off-limits on the seventh, fifth and third days before receiving Communion.
• Forget giving up sweets for Lent. Some Church leaders banned sex for forty days on the run up to Easter, Pentecost and Christmas.
• Various sexual positions were frowned upon. The missionary position was considered acceptable, but doggy-style could carry a seven-year penance.
