The Rock Opens Up About His Battle With Depression
Hollywood megastar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has revealed how he once suffered with mental health issues.
Speaking about the worst time in his life, he said: "Struggle and pain is real. I was devastated and depressed. I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly,"
He also told The Express newspaper that the "absolute worst time" in his life was when an injury forced him to give up football in college and his girlfriend broke up with him around the same time.
“We both healed, but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone," he said.
In a recent Instagram post, The Rock revealed that his mother suffered from mental health problems and attempted suicide when he was 15 years old.
"She got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic,” he wrote.
“Big rigs and cars were swerving out of the way. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road.”
He added that his mother had no recollection of the episode.
"What's crazy about that suicide attempt is that to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn't,' he concluded.
