Olivier Award-nominated Actress brings Nina Simone Story To Irish Stage
Nina : A Story About Me & Nina Simone is coming to the Pavilion theatre, Dun Laoghaire on 17 October.
Olivier Award-nominated actress Josette Bushell-Mingo, the star of the show, is performing select pieces from Nina - A Story About Me and Nina Simone at the official launch of the Belfast International Arts festival next Thursday 16th August, in Belfast.
Nina Simone was one of the most extraordinary artists of the 20th century. She was the consummate musical storyteller who used her remarkable talent to create a legacy of liberation, empowerment, and love through a magnificent body of work.
Touching upon the 1960’s civil rights movement, and drawing into parallel the struggles of the civil rights movement today this incredible story and song is devised by Dritëro Kasapi & Josette Bushell-Mingo.
The incredible story of Nina Simone is backed by a brilliant band, Josette Bushell-Mingo, who is starred in the stage production if Disney’s The Lion King, draws together tales from the life of Nina Simone and her own extraordinary career.
The production has been hailed by the UK critics. "Josette Bushell-Mingo brilliantly channels both Nina Simone's musicianship and anger at racism," according to The Scotsman. While the Guardian awarded it four stars, saying: “A searing tribute restarts Simone's revolution."
