Acclaimed actor Amy Huberman sums up what tickled her fancy in the past 12 months for the Hot Press annual.
Your Hero of 2021?
Every single nurse across the country who had to go to work for endlessly long shifts, head to toe in stifling PPE, caring for people, reassuring patients and families, working in the hardest, scariest conditions to try and keep us safe.
Villain of 2021?
Omicron the amadán, racing in at the end just when we thought the movie was coming to a close!
Best Personal Moment?
Well, it was technically the very end of 2020, but he wasn’t due until the beginning of 2021, so can I claim my baby Ted? I will, I’ll claim him. TED!
Best Movie or TV show?
One of the funniest movies I watched this year was Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar. Pure glorious silly fun to warm the cockles of your tired little pandemic heart/
My personal record of not burning two things during my March 2020 to December 2021 baking career. Oh you mean music record...I usually go old school on Spotify. ‘Tambourine’ by Eve managed to put a pep in my step on one of the zillion walks…
The one I enjoyed the most this year was The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo. Absolutely loved it.
Best thing you saw online?
Andrew Scott in The Three Kings from The Old Vic on a Zoom. Oh hang on, that could have been 2020, but they are all practically one at this stage right? Please see pandemic brain and baby brain mashed together; it’s a heady mix!
Your hope for next year?
People for the most part living without fear… Getting to hug and celebrate and explore, make plans and enjoy some freedom.
What tickled your funny bone?
Still waiting on that two-week period of us flattening that curve from almost two years ago? Sort of like whacking your funny bone, in that it’s not funny at all… sniff…
