WATCH: David Rooney's Newest Video, With Film Maker Donal Moloney

With the release of a video for 'Madeline', David Rooney is bringing a chapter to a close. But new recordings are on the way with both Stano and God Is An Astronaut

David Rooney has announced the release of a new video, to accompany the song 'Madeline'.

The video is seen as completing a journey that began two years ago, with the recording of David's debut album Bound Together, produced by Declan O’Rourke. ‘Madeline’ is the opening track on the album and is a special favourite for the singer-songwriter.

Filmmaker and photographer Donal Moloney teamed up with Rooney for a day in the woods of west Wicklow two weeks ago. Armed with a guitar and “a pack of charcoal a friend had given me two years ago”, Rooney and Moloney wandered the leaf strewn landscape, capturing the last rays of autumn sunshine – and in the process created a beautiful video.

“I know Donal Moloney for many years," David Rooney said, "and have always admired his fearless photographic style. His recent move to documentary-making has already produced award-winning work in the form of Martin which is about a homeless man he befriended in Dublin."

With the release of 'Madeline' out of the way, Rooney has also revealed plans for his follow-up, which he began recording recently.

“It was wonderful," he added, "to be making this video with Donal on the same week as the first track of the next batch of songs was being completed in studio, with recording artist and composer Stano at the helm as producer. He is just amazing to work with, a real collage artist. I feel there’s some real magic happening there, with just me and Jay Wilson on keys layering material down, Stano then cutting it up and sticking it back together again: comfortingly familiar territory for a visual artist like myself.”

Continuing in the spirit of interesting collaborations, Rooney plans to record a track over Christmas with God is an Astronaut. The fellow Wicklow residents, who will be back home from playing in Eastern Europe and India, are based close to where Rooney lives in the Rocky Valley. “They're just the other side of the Sugarloaf," he laughs. "I can trudge over there even if we’re snowed in I am very privileged to be working with all these talented people”.
