Movie deal for young Irish playwright
Remember the name...
A big congratulations goes out to promising young Dublin playwright David Gilna, who has just inked a deal with a London-based film studio to begin production on his play The Gift Of Lightning.
The Swords native was inspired to write the black comedy after being struck by lightning himself while visiting Boston in 2004. It was first staged in the New Theatre in Temple Bar and the Axis Theatre in Ballymun before David relocated to London in search of a bigger adventure, bringing his play with him to the stage at the Waterloo East Theatre. One viewing by Jon Thompson of World Picture Films later and the rest, as they say, it history.
"I am so proud of being Irish and am very excited that my play will be turned into a movie,” says an excited Gilna. Watch this space!
