Celebrate Philip Lynott's birthday this Saturday

A day of Lizzy entertainment to honour the great man!

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Aug 2011

This Saturday August 20 marks the birthday of the late, great Philip Lynott, 25 years after his death. To embrace the occasion, a weekend of entertainment is planned, kicking off on Friday when the rhythmic Tupelo stop by the Exhibiton to belt out a few Thin Lizzy numbers at 1pm.

That’s followed by an appearance by energetic new-wavers Dirty Epics. They’ll usher in their own unique take on Thin Lizzy at 2pm on Saturday. Philomena Lynott, No.1 bestselling author of My Boy, will also be making an appearance. All that and cake too!

Saturday evening sees the streets transformed into a carnival atmosphere as the Brazilian Masamba Pagent hits Grafton Street. Among those involved in the pageant will be the Brazilian community in Ireland as well as young people from the Smithfield and Darndale areas of the city. 'The Boys Are Back In Town' aims to celebrate Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy and is set to attract both long-standing fans and new audiences. The story is a great celebration of Dublin culture and will bring to life several iconic Thin Lizzy songs using music, dance and costume.

Speaking when he visited the Exhibition last month, Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague was moved to speak of the influence Philo had on his city.

"Through his music, Philip Lynott has earned a special place in the hearts of Dubliners – and indeed of fans the world over", the Lord Mayor commented. "The Philip Lynott Exhibition is a fantastic tribute to the Thin Lizzy frontman; It not only allows visitors to learn about the personal side of 'The Rocker', but it is also a wonderful historical snapshot of the culture and vibrancy of Dublin – a vibrancy that still very much runs through the city today."

The Exhibition has proved to be a huge success, attracting visitors from the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Serbia, Japan, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, the USA, Canada and many more countries around the world, as well as from all over the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
