Stars turn out for Set birthday bash
They mightn't have won the "drive for five" but them Kilkenny people still know how to party!
A galaxy of rock stars turned out last night to perform live as part of the first birthday celebrations for The Set venue in Langton's Hotel in Kilkenny.
Among a long and impressive list of performers who took to the stage were Fred, Lisa Hannigan, Clive Barnes, Mick Flannery, Julie Feeney, Jerry Fish, Gavin Glass, Ian Doyle and James Vincent McMorrow.
While most artists dipped into their own song bag for performance items, they also applied their skills to a selection of sparkling covers. McMorrow enthralled the audience with his version of Roy Orbison’s ‘In Dreams’, Lisa Hannigan turned in a riveting banjo-led interpretation of Bob Dylan’s ‘Meet Me In The Morning’, Ian Doyle shone with a deft version of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hurt’, and Clive Barnes gave a spirited rendition of Springsteen’s ‘I’m On Fire’.
A packed house heard many tributes paid by the artists to the venue and the sterling work of promoter Barry Ennis.
