Liam Merriman finds inspiration from Christie Hennessy
A track on Waterford man Liam Merriman's new album is inspired by his friendship with the late Christie Hennessy.
The new album Words In Music by Liam Merriman, the Waterford-based singer-performer, includes a self-penned instrumental called ‘The Bicycle Tune’ which was inspired by the late Christie Hennessy who died last December.
According to Merriman, “I knew Christy for a long time and was a great admirer of his work. I played him this tune when it wasn’t quite finished and he suggested that I forget about adding words to it as he felt it would make a fine instrumental. So I followed his advice and tried it out at a few gigs and he was right, it went down a bomb. So that’s how ‘The Bicycle Tune’ happened, thanks to Christie!”
Words In Music, which includes 11 originals by Merriman, was recorded in Nashville, using a team of musicians who have played with many of the top US folk and country acts, including Nanci Griffith.
