Veteran songwriter and broadcaster Niall Toner has scored a major coup by having one of his songs included on Grand Theft Auto 4.
Grand Theft Auto 4 is the biggest selling video game in history, having grossed over $7 million since its April 29 launch.
Toner’s song, ‘The Real Real’, which is also known as ‘The Dublin 2-Step’, soundtracks a scene set in a New York Irish pub. It was written and recorded in 1990 with a single release in mind, but never made it into the shops.
“This is the kind of break that every songwriter dreams about, and it’s the biggest thrill of my writing career,” Toner enthuses. “It goes to show that you should never lose faith in a song you’re proud of, and I hope it serves as an example to other writers who are waiting for a break.”
‘The Real Real’ found its way on to Grand Theft Auto 4 courtesy of recently inked publishing deals with Bardis Music in Dublin and LA’s Crucial Music.
“This would never have happened without the hard work of these two very determined publishers,” their grateful client concludes. “Thanks guys, let’s get working on another one!”
Next up for Toner is the May 25 release of a new acoustic album, NTB3.
