Colin Murray: new face of Radio 1 rock
Snow Patrol’s Belfast pal Colin Murray has landed a new Monday to Thursday rock show as part of BBC Radio 1’s new autumn schedule.
Currently on between 1 and 4pm with Edith Bowman, Murray will have sole responsibility for the 10pm to midnight slot, which will follow on from Zane Lowe and the new In Music We Trust hour.
“I’ve always had a close relationship with our listeners and now I’m taking it to a whole new level,” Murray enthuses. “I’ve been at Radio 1 for eight years with more than four of those spent making specialist programmes and I’m grateful to be given the chance to front a show that really hits those turned-on, engaged evening listener.”
There are mixed fortunes for Radio 1’s other Irish representatives, with the new schedule providing Dublin-born Annie Mac with two shows, and Larne dance DJ Fergie losing his Saturday night slot but continuing to put together Essential Mixes for the station.
