"The first ever band I could dance to without chemical assistance"
So says Irvine Welsh about his faves, Alabama 3 - on the brink of releasing their gobsmacking new album Power In The Blood - and he would know
And you thought the things he said about them in the last issue of Hotpress were gushing!
Irvine Welsh has credited Alabama 3 with being, "The first ever band I could dance to in the daytime hours without chemical assistance. That says a lot. Alabama 3 are about the only ones around who can make you sing, dance and think – even those of us who've impaired that latter process over the years with our indulgence in those chemicals made by man with the grace of our Lord."
The Trainspotting man has this to say about the Bammies' new album, Power In The Blood, which hits the racks next month: "All the enemies, the World Bank, free trade zones, nation states and corporate interests are ridiculed. You may be taking us on the road to oblivion, Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair, but we can make it there perfectly well under our own steam."
By far and away the best thing they've ever released, Power… features: 'Two Heads', 'Reachin'', 'Woody Guthrie', 'Year Zero', 'The Devil Went Down To Ibiza', 'Strobe Life', 'R.E.H.A.B.', 'The Moon Has Lost The Sun', 'Let The Caged Bird Sing', 'Yellow Rose', 'Bullet Proof', 'Lord Have Mercy', 'Come On Home', 'Power In The Blood' and a cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Badlands'.
You can also catch Brixton's finest live on November 25 when they mosey into Vicar St.
