Hot Press is travelling to northern Holland next week for the 40th anniversary of the festival, the opening night of which will be attended by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands
Hot Press’ winter woollies are packed in readiness for our trip next week to Groningen in northern Holland for the 40th anniversary edition of the Eurosonic showcase festival.
Despite predicted weekend lows of -6º, cockles are sure to be warmed by the Irish contingent which includes Basht., Bucket, Child Of Prague, Curtisy, DUG, Florence Road, Madra Salach, MOIO, Mount Palomar, Odhran Murphy, Officer John, SexyTadgh, The Null Club and the Galway-born, Manchester-based Dove Ellis whose opening Wednesday night set will be in front of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.
Other countries will be hard-pressed to match that little lot, many of whom have already featured in the pages of Hot Press or are destined to make it onto our upcoming Hot For 2026 list.
A launchpad down through the years for such heavy-hitters as Dua Lipa, Bastille, Sam Smith, George Ezra, Wet Leg, Sigrid, Sam Fender, Imelda May, Hozier, The Coronas, The Raveonettes, Nouvelle Vague, Lykke Li, Lisa Hannigan, James Vincent McMorrow, The Libertines, Villagers, English Teacher, The Lambrini Girls, The xx and Robyn, Eurosonic is attended by both industry bigwigs and local music fans who pack in to a dozen-plus venues dotted around one of Europe’s biggest medieval market squares. John Peel was a massive fan – and so are we!
The live action is accompanied by a full-blown music conference which includes keynote addresses, panel discussions, seminars and the mentoring sessions which our man Stuart Clark will once again be participating in.
Here are some of the overseas acts - the picture above is of British alt. soulster Cordelia – we’ll be catching and telling you about in our daily Eurosonic reports. Stay tuned to hotpress.com for a similarly bounteous Irish artists playlist...
