Happy Record Store Day!
What swag did you bag?
Having sharpened their elbows specially last night, Team Hot Press was up at the crack of dawn this morning to see what RSD goodies it could get its collective mitts on.
We thought we’d steal a march on our rival vinyl junkies by getting to Tower Records in Wicklow Street before it opened at 9 o’clock, but there were already hundreds of people queuing up outside.
Much jostling and running round to neighbouring Freebird Records later, we’re now the proud owner of 7” collectibles by AC/DC, Queen, Wild Beasts, R.E.M., Arctic Monkeys, Rush, Beastie Boys and – our fave! – a split Villagers/Charlotte Gainsbourg jobbie which was only meant to have surfaced in the UK and France. We also splashed out thirty yo-yos for a Parlophone box comprising of Blur, Eliza Doolittle, Hot Chip, Kylie and Tinie Tempah singles.
The HP shopping-basket was weighed down further by a Bruce Springsteen 10”, 12”s from Radiohead/Supercollider and New Order, a live Vaccines album, Gorillaz’ The Fall, Villagers’ Live At The Workman’s Club and The Flaming Lips’ Heady Nuggs vinyl box-set.
We wish we’d gotten more but, hey, not a bad haul!
