United Ireland for Palestine: Freedom Flotilla Fundraiser events to take place in 32 counties
"Our goal is to raise €32,000 to help fund the costs of the 'Shireen' – a women-crewed Irish Legal Support boat organised by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition Ireland"
As the Global Sumud Flotilla continues its efforts to break Israel's siege on Gaza, and open a humanitarian corridor, a campaign has been launched to raise €32,000 for the Shireen vessel, across the 32 counties of Ireland.
Under the banner 'United Ireland for Palestine', members of the public are invited to host small fundraising events, with the aim of raising at least €1,000 per county.
"Our goal is to raise €32,000 to help fund the costs of the 'Shireen' - a women-crewed Irish Legal Support boat organised by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition Ireland," the fundraiser's description reads.
"The Shireen set sail in early September - with human rights lawyers, legal observers & medics on board - and is presently accompanying the Global Sumud flotilla, as well as the upcoming Freedom Flotilla Coalition & 1000 Madleens flotilla & others due to sail in the coming months. The Shireen is a vessel of witness & solidarity, named after the assassinated, beloved Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
"Funds raised will go towards the running costs of the present and upcoming missions- for fuel, food & water, long-term mooring costs, AIS, sail repairs & a new storm sail, a new motor for the dinghy etc."
Those onboard the Shireen include barristers Leigh Brosnan and Gemma McLoughlin Burke, MEP Lynn Boylan, and psychotherapist and human rights campaigner Caoimhe Butterly.
The small fundraising events, organisers say, could include bake sales, trad sessions, coffee mornings, sea swims or table quizzes.
Those interested in organising events are encouraged to get in touch at [email protected] – and donate funds through the fundraiser page here.
