Wilderness
She has a gorgeous voice and a knack for penning memorable tunes – just a shame she didn’t opt for a rootsier backdrop here.
Best known for her 1992 hit, ‘Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover’ (included here as a bonus track) Hawkins has since struggled to maintain her initial momentum. Part of it could be down to her seemingly directionless style, which veers widely from proto-folk to dance pop and bland balladry. That said, she has a gorgeous voice and a knack for penning memorable tunes – just a shame she didn’t opt for a rootsier backdrop here.
