The anthemic ‘Outside’ depicts the life of a young D24 local during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Underground drill and hip hop is slowly starting to take over the Irish music scene, with Dublin's #D24 Smilez representing himself powerfully in the industry.
#D24 Smilez and Youngiz have teamed up for their collaborative new single ‘Outside’, garnering huge streaming numbers and YouTube views in the process as well as national radio play.
The track was produced by 18-year-old, Toronto-based beatmaker RicoRunDat, who has nabbed credits by working with the likes of Meek Mills, Feety Wap, CentralCee and more.
“Since Corona, I’ve been out way more, I’ve been more active, I’ve just been hands-on with the music, I’ve been 'Outside'," Smilez commented on the track. "The song is a reflection of that”.
The collaboration happened seamlessly as the pair have been working closely in the studio.
"When we planned the video for this everyone was supportive of us," Youngiz said of the music video shoot.
"The whole community contributed to it, it was like brotherhood and brotherly love, we moved as a unit."
Smilez added, “Since we started sharing the snippets a certain group has been feeling a certain type of way and targeting us because they think when we say ‘Outside’ we are looking for beef but we are letting people know now we are ‘Outside’ working hard, focusing on our music, our visuals, looking good and all the boys looking fresh and keeping their energy good."
Hailing from the borough of Tallaght, 19-year-old “trap baby” #D24 Smilez holds a strict no rap cap policy.
With debut project Eager under his belt after its release last August, Smilez has been putting a focus on quality over quantity, providing street banger after street banger over the past year.
His collaborator Youngiz is a newcomer to the rap scene, arriving in 2020 with debut single ‘Pray From Me’ and ‘Block Boy'. Watch this space for his progress, it's sure to be impressive.
