WATCH: Stone Roses spoof
Nico Tatarowicz, Peter Serafinowicz and friends have conjured up a brilliant faux documentary.
With The Stone Roses set to start their mammoth three-date homecoming in Heaton Park this evening ("eagerly anticipated" doesn't even begin to cover it), writer and director Nico Tatarowicz has enlisted his comedy pals to give the Madchester standard-bearers the Spinal Tap treatment.
Utterly hilarious and disconcertingly accurate, it's a good-natured jossing of the band and the era they sprung from, and is jam-packed with sharp one-liners. So of the fake talking heads, when asked about the Hacienda we have "Morrissey" deadpanning, "I'm aware that it's the Spanish word for estate...", "Liam Gallagher" making the point that "If it wasn't for The Big Bang, there wouldn't be an Oasis. End of." and "The Happy Mondays" turning up five minutes in, with "Shaun Ryder" saying of his sidekick and dancer: "His real name's Ben but the fucking 'N' fell off."
Even more hilarious are the Roses themselves, as they answer questions about being knowingly enigmatic with a smirk and "Dunno..." and their drummer Reni claims that Take That had the bigger reunion because they "had an elephant". Watch The Second Second Coming below, check out the latest issue of HP for your Roses fill, then see the real thing live at The Phoenix Park on July 5.
