Serenading planet-like creatures with a flute and commanding kaleidoscopic orbs, her video for 'The Gate' was part of a special collaboration with artist Andrew Thomas Huang and Gucci desiger, Alessandro Michele.
“The Gate is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way", the Icelandic singer-songwriter told Dazed magazine in a recent interview. "Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love—but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”
Discussing 'The Gate', Huang commented, by saying, “It is the first glimpse into Björk's utopia. The doorway lies within the wound from Vulnicura, which now appears transformed into a prismatic portal channeled between the chests of two lovers... As a throughway into Bjork's new album, The Gate is a declaration of hope sung by a woman refracted and re-formed into a luminous whole."
Commenting on the video, a spokesperson for Gucci said, designer Alessandro Michele "took approximately 550 hours to make, and an additional 320 hours for the embroidery. The dress’s fabrics include 5 meters of pleated iridescent PVC plastic material, 3 meters of PVC iridescent strips and 20 meters of pleated lurex organza."
