In 2018, the alternative rock band traded Dublin for Perth, Australia, for a two-year journey of music and exploration.
Dublin-based outfit Wild Tibetan Monks are releasing their first ever lyric music video, adding creative visuals for their latest single 'Lying Next to You.
Created by Ciarán Casey from Wilsain Media, the animated video features different parts of the world that the band have explored over the years - with destinations ranging from Ireland and Australia to the US. Luscious green forests and stretching planes of desert cacti with all kinds of geography in between are included as part of the imagery, which echoes the music video for the group's debut single 'Liam'.
The 'Lying Next to You' lyrics give fans a greater understanding of what the song is about, allowing the band to deliver the meaning of the song through a visual medium.
“For the video, I was given a brief to create an animated lyric video and to incorporate the band's travels," Ciarán Casey said of the project. "I listened to the song multiple times, found the lyric ‘Go Now You’re like a slow train coming’ a base for the video. Traveling through different scenarios, where things are new and exciting. Taking boats, planes and trains to see new places with new people."
The nostalgic indie-rock song features semi-sweet vocals and a spacey instrumental arrangement which compliments the poignant and relatable tale being told. With a refrain that’s reflective and candid, the song builds to a driving bridge, and a somewhat unresolved close.

“The song is about not just physically lying next to someone, but lying in not telling them the truth," band member Sean explains about the track's genesis.
"It’s about feeling trapped, not knowing what to do. It’s about being conflicted, having all these emotions that you want to share with someone but can't. The song depicts feeling conflicted about what you should say and what you should share. At the end of the song, there’s regret. The narrator knows they should have been honest, should have said how they felt, should have spilled their heart out.”
The song was written by bass player and vocalist Sean, who then brought it to the band. The composition clicked straight away, with the whole group eventually deciding to move forward and make it a major release, recording the track in Hellfire Studios when the band returned from two years in Australia.
The alternative rock band is comprised of lead vocalist and bass player Sean, Ringo on guitar, and Liam on drums. The trio met in college back in 2011, quickly forming a band. Then they went on to perform together for several years before touring Western Australia with varied lineup over the years.
Recording original music helped Wild Tibetan Monks to broaden their horizons and establish an even wider following. The global COVID pandemic forced the band to move back to Ireland, where they are now focused on releasing their latest material.
